Hatch Rest 2nd Gen
The Rest 2nd Gen does the most out of any option here: white noise plus a night light plus a wake-up light for the toddler-to-preschool years, all controlled from an app. That’s also its main tradeoff. It’s a connected device with a companion app and an optional subscription for extra content, which is more setup than some parents want for a sound machine. Good fit if you want one device to grow with your kid past infancy. Skip it if you’d rather have something with no app, no account, and no subscription upsell.
Yogasleep Dohm Classic
The Dohm is a mechanical fan inside a housing, not a speaker playing a recording. That means the sound never loops or repeats, which some babies and light sleepers respond to better than digital white noise. It has no app, no lights, and one dial for volume and tone. Good fit if you want something simple that just works. Skip it if you want a night light or app scheduling built in.
Yogasleep Dohm Connect
Same fan mechanism as the Classic, with app control added for scheduling and remote on/off. It’s the middle ground if you like the authentic fan sound but still want to turn it off from your phone without walking into the nursery. Good fit for parents who liked the idea of the Classic but want a bit more convenience. Skip it if the extra cost over the Classic doesn’t buy you anything you’d actually use.
Ewan the Dream Sheep Deluxe
This is a plush toy first and a sound machine second. It plays a handful of soothing sounds, has a soft glow light, and includes a cry sensor that can trigger the sound automatically. Because it’s small and battery- or rechargeable-powered, it travels well, in the crib, the car, or a hotel room. Good fit for travel or as a comfort object that does double duty. Skip it if you want a true room-filling white noise machine, the sound output is much quieter than a dedicated unit like the Dohm or Hatch.
